Main Attractions of the Coin Area
Historically, Coín is one of the most interesting towns in area of Spain. Because of its location in the valley of the Rio Grande, it is doubtless that a settlement existed here long before the Roman occupation. Marble from the quarries of Coín were used to construct the roman town of Ithalica nearby, and which was the birthplace of the Roman emperor, Hadrian, famous for the wall he built dividing Britain. Those who are interested in history will certainly enjoy the old square in Coín, and will benefit from its location nearby a multitude of other historic sites in neighboring communities.
Other attractions to Coín include its impressive fruit market which offers local fruits for cheap, and runs nearly every day. The produce is fresh, and some of the best tasting fruit in all of the Costa del Sol comes from Coín. Another major attraction is the beautiful scenery in the area, overlooking the gorgeous fruit orchards and forest groves of the valley.
Coín has held on to its true Spanish charm and character offering a good nightlife from traditional tapas bars and bedegas to more modern bars and nightclubs, less frenetic than the other resorts of the Costa del Sol, there is something to suit anyone’s taste.
Two ferias are held in Coín yearly, first in May and second in August. The locals enjoy these festivals fully, the incredible opening and closing fireworks displays should not be missed.
Lovers of outdoor life can make the most of the countryside surrounding Coín, great places for trekking are the nearby El Charco del Infierno, La Albuquera and La Fuente forests. It is also an ideal base from which to explore the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park and the beautiful lakes of El Chorro. |
